Barbour Grays, Inc. Features a volunteer group of men, women and children depicting the citizens called to arms during the Civil War. Dressed in Confederate costumes, they shoot black powder, tell of Civil War history and carry the antiques of the time period. Blue and Gray Park. Located on U.S. 119 and 250 at the west end of the Covered Bridge this mini-park features a flag circle displaying 3x5 foot replicas of the five flags that flew over Philippi during the Civil War and a 320-foot side walk from the bridge to the park. Carrolton Covered Bridge. Built in 1856 – it is the second longest and third oldest covered bridge in WV. It spans the Buckhannon River. Located off U.S. 119, Carrolton, WV. Covered Bridge. The longest two-lane covered bridge still in use on a federal highway. Erected in 1852, it served the North and South during the Civil War, has survived floods, ice jams, and damage from trucks for 141 years. Restored in 1991, Philippi, WV. |
Historical Society Museum. Contains Civil War and other historical memorabilia from Barbour County. It was opened in 1985 in the old train depot at the east end of the Covered Bridge Anna Jarvis Birthplace. Located on U.S. Rt. 119 & 250 south of Grafton in Webster. This two-story house served as headquarters for troops during the Civil War. Birthplace of Anna Jarvis, Mother’s Day founder. Special Mother’s Day Services. Tygart Lake State Park. A 13-mile lake for boating, fishing, water skiing, etc, There are 16 trailer sites, 24 tent sites, 10 cabins, hiking trails and recreation areas. Open May to October, Route 1, Box 260, Grafton, WV 26354. Audra State Park. Located along the banks of the Middle Fork River - there are 335 acres with 64 camp-sites, swimming and picnicking.
